About
Our plan is simple. Sell everything and travel the world…
We are a family of three (two generation X’ers and a 5 year old) living in the Pacific Northwest, USA. We love to travel. I mean we REALLY love to travel and never seem to get enough of it (is there rehab for travel junkies?). We decided that the one thing holding us back from traveling more is our jobs. Of course, our jobs are important as they do offer us the means to travel. Without money, we can’t travel… or eat. A bit of a catch 22, don’t you think? But taking a year or two off to travel the world as a family is far more valuable then the money we would earn in that time.
When we informed our families about our intentions of taking off on a round-the-world trip, they thought we were nuts. “That’s what retirement is for,” they stated. Bah! We feel it is better to do all the things you dream of doing as soon as you are able, as you never know what may happen in the future. And if we are still in good health once we retire, maybe we will do it again and hit all the countries we missed the first time.
We have heard that 8 years old is the perfect age to take your child on a round-the-world trip. They are old enough to remember the experience, yet not too old to be at the ”I’m too cool to hang around my parents” mode. So, we leave when she is 8′ish. That would put our estimated year of departure to be 2012.
We are thinking our first stop will be France, then Spain, Morocco, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Israel, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, and then…
Until then, we have a lot of research and planning to do and will keep travelling as much as possible, and posting it all here on travel-junkies.com
