If you want or if you were planning to go on the Paris Sewer tour, a warning it stinks! In the third and fourth tunnel of the tour, you can see sewer water. In the sewer water, I saw a mop and poop. One time, they found some swords and boots.
In the Middle Ages, they dumped their poop in the streets. The poop drifted into canals that ran into the Seine River. You would probably not want to swim in the river! Where would you swim? They also got their drinking water from the Seine River. Ewwww! The first underground sewer was built around the 1300’s.
Did you know, sewers need to be cleaned out. They use a ball to clean out the sewer.
Facts about Paris Sewer
- It stinks.

I know you are having a great time!!!!!
Wow! We will be in Paris in January so I’ll have to think about going on the sewer tour. But, then again, now that I have read your post, maybe not! You’re doing really well on your writing and you offer good information. Going on the sewer tour was a good real-life learning experience, yes?!
I read this last week. What a brave girl you are! I think learning about waste is important, but I’m not so sure I would want a tour of the sewer. Your pictures and story will make the class laugh when I read this to them after Winter Break.
