A Photo Tour of The Ewe Experience

As we travel, we are always looking for fun filled educational activities that we all can enjoy.  When I came across a flyer for The Ewe Experience, an interactive sculpture garden, I knew we had to go.  But convincing my daughter and husband that it looked like fun was another matter.  Pictures of manicured gardens with flowers floated through their heads along with the thought of “Yawn, how boring!”  With some persistence and a lot of enthusiasm from me, they finally agreed to go.  However after our visit to Ewe Sculpture Garden, we all agreed this was not just another boring botanical garden, but something much more.  We also all agreed it was well worth the money and the time spent there.

Ewe Sculpture Garden

Ewe Sculpture Garden is located on Ireland’s Southwest Coast just outside of Glengarrif.  Ewe Garden is an interactive garden with lots of activities for all ages including games, mazes, nature art projects and of course lots of sculptures.  The artist has a good sense of humor and there are tons of fun, whimsical sculptures throughout the garden.  Accompanied with the sculptures are plaquereds with stories, rhymes, poems, or information about the environment.  The garden has both manicured areas and natural areas with paths, bridges and several cozy hideaways. It also has a lovely stream with several small cascading waterfalls running through it.

We easily spent the afternoon in Ewe Sculpture Garden playing games, learning about the environment and making nature sculptures.  We learned interesting facts about nature, such as did you know that there is an earthworm in New Zealand that can grow up to 15 feet long or that it takes 2,400 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef?  Wow!  This is learning at its’ best.

Ewe Sculpture Garden

During our afternoon at Ewe Sculpture Garden, Sydney enjoyed spending time creating a “nature” sculpture from rocks, curvy sticks and pinecones.  But if asked she would say her favorite thing about the garden was all the fun games such as solitaire, dino & croc, and chess.  Jason enjoyed how the sculptures are intermingled with nature.  It was hard for me to pick what I liked best, as there is so much to this garden.  I loved the zen like atmosphere and whimsical sculptures.  But if I had to pick just one thing, it would the chalkboard tucked away in a corner.  Written on the chalkboard was the message, “Before I die I want to…”  I wrote, “to learn a new language.”  What would you write?
