Photo of the Week: Berlin Wall

Berlin Wall

Berlin Wall

Having both grown up during the Cold War, Kerri and I have always dreamt of seeing the Berlin Wall. From watching the news about bold escapes from East Berlin, to the fall of the wall in 1989, the wall has always held an awe for everyone that lived during that period. What once was a symbol of oppression, the remaining sections of the wall have now become a symbol of freedom.

During our recent stay in Berlin we got to go and see the wall first hand. To touch it and to see  it as the ultimate barrier that it once was. And to do what so many people wished they could have done before 1989; to walk to the other side without being shot. Our 8-year old daughter, Sydney, only saw it as a concrete wall with lots of spray paint. I guess you just had to have lived during that time to appreciate it.

The remaining sections of the wall have been decorated by international artists. Some of the artwork is odd, others are beautiful, and like the above photo of the week, political. We hope you enjoy…
