While visiting Prague, our hosts mentioned a “Bone Church” just a one hour away by train. Intrigued, we purchased train tickets to Kutná Hora to check it out!
The Bone Church’s actual name is Sedlec ossuary, which is a small Roman Catholic church in the middle of a cemetery near the town of Kutná Hora. The ossuary is said to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 to 70,000 former living people. Not nearly as numerous as the 6-million people now residing in the Paris Catacombs, but this ossuary is a bit different. Not only did they stack the bones, but they turned them into decorations, including a huge chandelier! The place was cool, but a little odd.
