Auschwitz Prosthetic Limbs

After visiting and photographing Auschwitz, it was hard to choose just one photo for the photo of the week. Auschwitz is not a place that can be summed up in a single photo. But the one that comes closest is from the room that housed the prosthetic limbs. Auschwitz was a place where the “strong” destroyed the “weak.” The weakest, according to the Nazis, were the old, the very young, and the handicap. These were the first to die in the gas chambers after unloading from the cattle cars, as they were deemed unfit for hard labor. Their bodies were incinerated in the ovens and all that remains are their prosthetics that were tossed aside in massive piles. A truly, chilling sight…
