Have you ever been to Turkey? Well if you have then you know how good the food is. If you have not been there then you are missing out. Here are some foods that you have to try.
Gözleme
Gözleme is a Turkish pancake. The Turkish pancake is filled with good stuff. For example, I had banana and Nutela pancake. I also had one with potato. The pancake is cheap, good, and easy to find. The dough of the pancake is very thin like a crepe.
Köfte
Köfte is a Turkish meatball. It is very flavorful and it is better than a shish kebab. That is another Turkish dish. You will hear about that later.
Pide
Pide is Turkish pizza. Its shape is like a boat. If you like pizza then you will like this. We had a vegetable and meat and cheese pide. It was pretty good.
Manti
Manti is known as Turkish ravioli, however manti does not look like regular ravioli. It is filled with garlic, minced meat, and lamb. It is generally served with yogurt on top of it. I prefer no yogurt. It is very good.
Turkish Breakfast
Do you know what the Turkish have for breakfast? Well, I will tell you. The Turkish breakfast includes some bread, cheese, a hardboiled egg, olives, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Sometimes there will be some plain yogurt. Sometimes you will find that soup is served for breakfast. I did not like it.
Shish Kebab
It is fried meat on a stick. If you order kebab it does not have a lot of flavor in it.
Ayran
Ayran is a salty yogurt drink. It has milk, yogurt, and salt in it. I think it is NASTY!
Turkish Tea
Turkish tea is very bitter. No matter how much sugar there is in there, it stays bitter. I do not like it.
Turkish Coffee
It super bitter coffee. At the bottom it tastes like mud. I do not like it.
Turkish Baklava
Baklava has a pastry crust filled with stuff. It is topped with sugar water. It is too sweet for me.
Lokum
Lokum is also known as Turkish delight. It is sweet, sticky and sticks to your teeth. It is covered with sugar powder. I loved it!
Now I am done talking about foods you are going to learn how to make Turkish delight.

Now you know all about the foods of Turkey
Great post Sydney and the photo of kabob looks delicious! We make a lot of Persian food, which is kind of similar, so we know how good the food is!
The kabob I had lacked flavor. Thanks Patti
Brilliant post! We’re off to Istanbul in a couple of months and this will come in very handy! Thanks 🙂
Thank you! You have try the kofte. It is really good.
Great post – we were just in Turkey and you covered everything we ate!
We agree with your reviews on almost everything except Turkish Delight – it was so sweet I could only eat once piece (although the ones with nuts inside are good).
Are you nuts? I don’t like the ones with nuts inside.
Great post Sydney! I’m a fussy eater myself but I like the look of the Gozleme; if I had a kitchen right now I’d try out that recipe too 🙂
Thanks Amy! It looks like it would be hard to make.
What I believe is Turkish food one of most delicious foods I am Turkish and I grew up with this food, so worse thing is most of dishes are fatty. There are plenty of Turkish restaurants that I have investigated in Sydney. In Newtown, Auburn, Balmain
