Sydney’s Corner: National Visual Art Gallery of Malaysia

A couple days ago, we went to the National Visual Art Gallery of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.  We saw an exhibit called “Absurd(c)ity.”  It was all right.  I will tell you a couple things about my favorite paintings.  I even made up a story about them.

The first painting is called “The Great Supper.”  The painting looks like people are having a supper with animals on the side.

Here is the story of the great supper I made up.

 A crow heard that the humans wanted a feast, but there was no meat in the butcher shop.  So the humans hired a hunter to get them boar, deer, bear, a really fat jackrabbit, and prairie hens.  The crow told every forest and prairie animal about hunters and the feast.  The wild animals declared war.  After a long furious, heroic fought battle, the wild animals won and the other animals (humans) lost.  The humans to this day onward never hurt animals again.

Do you like it?  The  painter’s name is Eng Hwee Chu.  She lives in Malaysia.

My second favorite artist is Zulkifili Dahlan and his painting is funny.  It is called “Kedai Kedai – Shop” It is a bunch of naked people shopping.

Here is a story about “Shop” that I created:

One day everyone woke up naked.  They had no clothes anywhere in the city.  The town was called Crazy Town.  Unfortunately, tourists came to crazy town that day when everyone was naked.  When the tourists saw the naked ones they went running and screaming out of town into the woods. The people got lost and nearly drowned in a lake and died by getting eaten by a grizzly bear in the woods.
