Italy is not just steeped in history, and it’s not just home to some of the world’s most fashion conscious people, it’s also home to some incredibly beautiful beaches. In fact, some of the world’s most beautiful beaches can be found in this country which is why more and more people are visiting Italy every year.
Cala Goloritzé
Found in Sardinia, Cala Goloritzé is like something you would find in a desert island movie. Located at the bottom of the north-eastern coast this beach may be small but it’s still incredibly beautiful. With limestone cliffs that dramatically make their way down to the blue/green sea, the beach is very special. Take a walk along the ivory sand and feel its warmth between your toes. A UNESCO site that is close to a lot of people’s hearts Cala Goloritzé feels distinctly tropical and spending time here is a must.
Tropea
Located in Calabria, Tropea is a stunning sandy beach that is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves beach holidays in Italy. While Calabria is not as well-known as Sardinia or many other tourist hotspots it still has a lot of charm. With a white sanded beach, a rocky outcrop that seems to have been dropped on the edge of the water, this beach is nothing short of wonderful. Tropea beach can get busy during the day as the locals and a few visitors make use of the great weather, so you may want to visit in the early morning and enjoy the quiet.
Cala Granara
Found on Isola di Spargi, Cala Granara may make you wonder if you have accidentally ended up somewhere in the Caribbean. While this beach is not surrounded by magnificent cliffs unlike many Italian beaches, it is surrounded by palm trees which makes up for it. The waters here are ideal if you would like to enjoy a spot of snorkelling, and the relative quietness of the beach means it’s ideal for an early evening stroll with a loved one.
San Vito lo Capo
Found in Sicily and the ideal destination for local families, San Vito lo Capo is not well-known outside of Italy. While the area is by no means a tourist hotspot the beach is definitely worth a visit thanks to the dramatic cliff behind it and the way the beach weaves gently around the island. Movie fans may wish to know that the nearby ancient port featured in ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ and other movies.
Italy is crammed to the brim of wonderful beaches that are just waiting to be explored. Make your way to Cala Goloritzé, a UNESCO site and enjoy the ivory sands. Visit Tropea and bathe on the white sands while you listen to the waves crash against the shore. Take time to visit Cala Granara with its Caribbean-like views, and lastly, head for San Vito lo Capo with its stunning cliff and gentle sands.
